Letterboxd Recommendr FAQ
How the picker works, what's free, and what the $1/month Patron subscription adds.
How does Letterboxd Recommendr work?
Enter your Letterboxd username and we generate movie recommendations from five sources: your watchlist, the Letterboxd Top 500, the Top 250 Films with the Most Fans, the Top 250 Documentaries, and AI picks based on the films you've rated five stars.
How do I pick a random movie from my Letterboxd watchlist?
Enter your Letterboxd username on the homepage, choose Watchlists, and spin. The wheel loads your watchlist (or up to five friends' watchlists combined), removes anything anyone has already watched, and picks one film at random.
Is Letterboxd Recommendr free?
Yes. The watchlist, Top 500, Most Fans 250, and Top 250 Documentary pickers are free and don't require an account. For $1/month, Recommendr Patron adds a saved profile list synced across devices, personal spin history, and the AI Randomizr based on your 5-star ratings — the small subscription covers the AI and server costs.
Is this an official Letterboxd product?
No. Letterboxd Recommendr is an independent tool that uses publicly available Letterboxd profile data. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Letterboxd.
Does my Letterboxd profile need to be public?
Yes. We can only generate recommendations from profiles set to public visibility on Letterboxd.
Why is Randomizr for Patrons only?
Randomizr runs your 5-star reviews through a large language model to generate picks, and every request costs real API money plus server time to fetch your Letterboxd data. The $1/month Patron subscription covers those costs. The watchlist, Top 500, Most Fans 250, and Top 250 Documentary pickers stay free.
How can I suggest a feature or report a bug?
Email hello@letterboxdrecommendr.com — feature ideas, bug reports, and general feedback are all welcome.
